Wha....?

One of the real joys of living in Korea is reading the surreal and often incomprehensible "Ssomi and Hobo" by Artier Lee. This one seems to have been loosely(!) inspired by the Chinese space walk, but it's kind of difficult to tell.

Word on the street is that the translation is bad (it is apparently done in Korean), but I kind of like it. It's a good cartoon to read when you're hungover and nothing makes sense..

I guess the cartoon makes reference to two things (as the punch line seems to be the line on the bottom right, that reads: Be careful what you eat).

Just in case you haven't read it like I did... The cartoon makes reference to 1) Chinese space walk, and 2) Chinese melamine-enriched foodstuff. You need to be cautious on what you eat, or you may find yourself having diarrhea (loose bowl movement) in the middle of your spacewalk... (I might have killed your hungover amusement...)

BKF..

I hadn't thought of the melamime angle, but that makes a lot of sense. As I said, we hear that the translations from Korean to English are bad and that the meaning is often lost.

And, yeah, the "punchline" is always some semi-philosophical thing or piece of obvious advice. ;-)
