Updates and stuffs..

If you didn't see this on my pretentious literary blog..

the 10 Magazine “expatriate blog” contest is over and KTLIT came in 2nd. Apologies to Brian (Gratuitous link to his post of Lee Hyori), Marmot, and Roboseyo, all of whom have blogs with substantially more useful content.

After that 10 Magazine contest, and the coverage by Media 오늘 (thanks to Tatter&Media) ratings for KTLIT went from nowhere to somewhere… from 5 millionth or so on Alexa to 780,000, and to 2,586th in Korea.

Actually.. I've dropped down below 700,000 on Alexa, for god knows what reason, but I'll take it.

Even better, the notoriety of this and my Media Onul piece means I get emails like this invitation to a conference:

so.. like if that turns out, it would be awesome.

The conference will be held at Duksan Spa Castle Hotel (http://www.resom.co.kr/eng/spa/info_01.html ). Of course, lodging, meals, and transportation would be covered for you and your family if you choose to attend. If you wish to present, a small honorarium would also be provided and publication in the journal of the Korea Academic Society of Tourism is also possible.

To be honest, I'd do it just to do it.

The power of social blogging, I guess....

HOLY Cow-toez!

Kim Young-ha just signed up to follow my twitter feed. I count him among the top three novelists in translated Korean lit... I'm kind of scared!

Yvonne at rest

long weekend with plenty to post.. but now it is Sunday night, and Yvonne has fallen asleep on the couch...

I go out.. having taken off my shoes and socks... wake her up and say it's bedtime, so I won't make her smell my socks (this is, sadly, how we bond ;-)!) She says... "ok, I'm" and never gets any further...

falls asleep while sitting up, and slumps back onto the couch.....

LOL.. at least I won't have to listen to her snoring.. ;-)

Blogging My Fame (Mother's Request Special)

My Sainted Mother sends a complaint that I don't blog quite enough. As I good son I resolve to fix this situation and go out and get covered in the Korean press for my blog..

Click here to read of my fame (if you read hangul).

Also, partway down the page there is a picture of me looking entirely deranged.

Check it out!

Back in the Saddle Again!

Aaah.....

One week into the semester, marriage nightmare behind us (and Yvonne having gone full ajjumah!), and we took a little walk up Mt. Namsan.

Seoul is "re-doing" Namsan to make it more tourist friendly... though what I see so far seems to be dirt replaced with concrete..... Here is the fish pond:

Then we walked up and, since I was already powered by Soju Breakfast, we just had to get Yvonne some sugar:

Then we watched the swordstuff (down there on the right is the hacked off bit of innocent bamboo):

Whilst dogs humped in the background:

Then Yvonne posed again:

And prayed to a heater...

Then it was home.... as it had become farking cold!

Getting ready for the Grind - and Yearly Goals

Tomorrow is the first day of the year, as I count it here in Korea.. school starts and I have to be on my game...

The cold I picked up after the wedding (mine, oddly enough) is lingering, but I feel ok beyond that. I'm actually rather fond of my wedding ring.. although as HUS notes.. it burns like Satan's tongue.

To be honest, that raises questions about HYS's relationship to Satan.

Anyway.... as the newest thing on my body, and on my hands which move about a bit.. I see it all the time. That thrill, no doubt, will go away, but for now I am a monkey with a new and shiny rock.

For all of you who were at the wedding... great thanks .... wandering from table to table and reacquainting myself with you all was the highlight of the day. Marrying was grand.. but as Yvonne noted in her vows, with us home is where the heart is and our home is here in Seoul...

All of you all don't drop by enough!

Confusion from stem to bow as the semester begins and I have to try to figure out a new syllabus for my auditory class. Yvonne is off buying shoes....

Tomorrow... my goals for this new year. I didn't do the goal thing last year (hubris!) and got off track. No such mistake this year. ;-)

Anyone with pics of the wedding can please send them?
