POSSLQ Cars Up! Caligula Pimping!

Trauma Clown Wants You

Because someone has to...

Bass in Your Face!

Second Bass lesson today and I learned much that I will put here for my own reminder. Here is the standard 1-4-5 blues progression starting with a C:

Within that you play the 1-3-5 notes of each root:

Off the C (1 above)
Off the F (3 above)
Off the G (5 above)

Last, but not least a scale I will have to check for accuracy against my notes (Again based on "C")

Why Philosophy Sucks...

Because in reply to someone I actually wrote this:

Panoptical illusions (or delusions)
I'm also just thinking that most "ethics" are developed in an odd way – they reflect the recognition that "someone is watching." Plato's unexamined life, for instance, is just turning a demonstrable social fact inward. I think all ethics must evolve similarly. I know that a version of this is the basis for whatever ethics I have. That is, when I observe others I come to the shocking recognition that they have desires and beliefs that are as firmly held as mine. This means I must give them some credence. This also explains why psychopaths are generally portrayed as ethic-less, moral-less monsters (when in fact they do have their own ethics, aesthetics, and quite normal, in some respects, lives). The answer to that person who cannot see that the "other'" is in some way related is to stigmatize, even demonize them.

Problems occur, as suggested by the psychopath, when competing ethics cannot be reconciled in any way. At that point ethics tend to be cast aside for pointy sticks of varying technological effectiveness.

Then I went back to obsessively polishing my pistol and finishing that whiskey.

News From Korea

The should have let him keep his 300 Won lighter!

Probably the kind of guy who wouldn't even give you a reach around!

Some Games are Serious!

And of course, and insensitive pic swiped from FARK

My Day at the Beach

Aaaah.. margaritas in Capitola....

The Clown House

The Peek

ArtRage

A totally cool product from

here

I did this horrific thing in about 3 minutes, but it let me see how cool the thing could be.

Mr. Bad Example

So My iPod is just disgorging a rich vein of Warren Zevon. Who had to die young, for some reason, while Elton John just continues to live on to support Disney Movies and hair-transplantation while he waits for some other really famous woman to die so he can recycle "Candle in the Wind" one more disgusting but remunerative time.

The past seems realer than the present to me now
I've got memories to last me
When the sky is gray
The way it is today
I remember the times when I was happy

Same old sun
Same old moon
It's the same old story
Same old tune
They all say
Someday soon
My sins will all be forgiven
Gentle rain
Falls on me
All life folds back
Into the sea
We contemplate eternity
Beneath the vast indifference of heaven

White Boy Blues?

Took my first Bass Lesson today...

How to hold the thing..
notes on the fretboard

and the 1,3,5 pattern on the 1,4,5 for the major triads (still looking for a good graphic)

Much easier to play than the guitar and the blues progressions actually sound good for an almost complete beginner.

More Reasons to Love the Absurdity

Sally Forth may not be my cup of tea ....

The guy who writes the script is an un-syndicated cartoonist ("cartoonator?" "cartoonician?" "Cartesian?") who has a website you must go to..

and on this website are his brilliant cartoons... two of which I reproduce here without any pretense of copyright.. because I just know he's the kind of guy who works on an unspoken creative commons license -- that's why!

What it Wrong With This Picture?

Tiger isn't in it. And it's the front page of ESPN.

And Eminem hasn't had a hit in what? Months?

Yao Ming is out of playoffs?

The best joke racists could tell to 'prove' they aren't racists has now officially gone away.....

Another Great Spam Subject Line

For spell my threepence

I expected something, if not Shakespearian, Elizabethan.

Instead I learned that I could get pills that might cause dangerous 4-hour erections. But from overseas this time, you see!

NOTE: The "great spam subject line" was originally started on my roll-yer-pownd blog at

this joint here

Which lives on in ignominy on my server..

Fascinating!

A Legendary Career Might Be Over?

Digging around the intarweb you sometimes find artifacts that hint at greatness. John Basil Jackson is truly one of the great. In a career spanning 15 years and 81 fights his record was only marred by 4 victories (I like to think his 2 disqualifications were caused by jealous rivals who goaded him into a head-butting battle by being even worse than he was).

I note that his last fight was over a year ago and that he is now 40. I certainly hope this doesn't mean he has retired since as an over-40 boxer he will certainly have a chance to continue to pad his record.

I just hope he doesn't get signed to fight Mike Tyson, because I couldn't stand to see another "W" blemish his record.

John Basil Jackson - Monument

And then, through the magic of the intarwebs I find this page which introduces me to the aptly named "Joe Grim" whose win percentage is even lower. I leave it to purists to argue if his high DQ rate counts for anything. Anyway, he stopped fighting in 1913, so I guess he won't be gilding the lilly any longer.

Ruined By Sobriety? Other Nightmares.

Get the Whisky and the Revolver!

Today's task..... who got sober and then got boring?

I'm starting with John Hiatt, since even though he did some good work after he sobered up, it was never of the same energy as his late-drunk period.

Lou Reed?

Then there's Richard Pryor, but it's hard to tell if it is sobriety that ruined him of the fire he set to himself. Anyway, we don't want to be too hard on Richard now that he lives fulltime in Wobbly-World.

Anyone else? Time to hit the web.

Nightmare

Doing a search for tabs for Husker Du's "Pink Turns to Blue" and getting a bunch of fucking Pink Floyd tabs.

What could be limper than that?

I can't believe I like it

It concerns me the I like "Drink at Work" so much. It didn't concern me when I first found the site. It was clever and it seemed to make a lot of fun of Sally Forth, a comic I've never liked. Then I discover it is by the writer of Sally Forth. Talk about cognitive dissonance! It's not that I feel dirty or anything, just sort of uncool...

sigh.....
